NEW ONLINE OPTION AVAILABLE
FOR THOSE SEEKING FOOD HANDLERS PERMIT
As of August 1st, food service workers in Southwest Utah will have an online option for receiving their food handler’s permit. A food handler’s permit, issued by the county, is required of any employee working in a business involving the serving of food. Currently, the required course for hourly food service workers is offered only at the various county health departments on certain days, usually once or twice a week. Applicants pay twenty dollars, watch a thirty-minute movie, and take a test to receive their certificate.
While the online option adds five dollars (plus tax) and fifteen minutes to the course, there are many advantages to taking it through the internet. Users can take the course any time, day or night, through any non-dial-up internet connection. The course can even be paused and resumed later for more time flexibility. The engaging new format provides more opportunities for a better learning experience through interactive activities. After taking the test at the end of the course, the results are made available to the health department where the individual will pick up the official copy of their permit. For health department hours, check with your local county health department.
The course can be accessed through the Southwest Utah Department of Health website (www.swuhealth.org) or through CourtesyTraining’s and Proton Communications’ product website (www.trainingharbor.com).
CourtesyTraining prides itself on offering innovative online training for the hospitality industry, which allows for the tracking of user training and testing. Primarily focusing on restaurants, the company developed the Safe Food Handling course to be used by the hourly employee, as opposed to other training programs designed for management. CourtesyTraining offers a wide variety of fully customizable courses, as well as the technology to help anyone create their own courses for their business.
